Wills and Estate Law

Wills | Codicils | Power of Attorney

Double Diamond Law advises individuals and families on how best to prepare for end-of-life to relieve the stress of these difficult conversations. A Will is the legal document which sets out how you want your estate handled after you have passed away. A well-written Will should prevent your family from having to deal with an extended probate process at a most stressful time. If done properly, it can minimize the amount of tax payable and preserve the amount of wealth transferred to your beneficiaries.

We also advise that each person prepare a Power of Attorney when they are doing their Will. There are a few types of PoAs; general and enduring Powers of Attorney are for dealing with your finances and property. A Representation Agreement, also commonly known as a Medical Power of Attorney gives a designated person the authority to handle personal and non-financial decisions in the event of mental incapacity.

Double Diamond Law will lead you through this process based on your stage of life. We recommend that you revisit these documents regularly as major life changes happen.
